Campsite 2 in Croatia

Does this look like paradise or what??

After a relaxed week and 2 winning football games at campsite Adria Sol, we headed a bit further north to the area around Senj. To Camp Ujca :-) And as you can see from the photo here to the right, the campsite had its own beautiful little bay. The water here was SO clear that we could see starfish, sea urchins, various fish, and sea cucumbers even without a dive mask!

This campsite will be memorable for meeting the following :

Hilbrand & Greetje

A lovely Dutch couple (at a guess in their early 50s) who shared not only the highs of yet another winning World Cup football match, but also lots of laughs, a few beers and even some BBQ chicken :-)

3 German boys from Bavaria

Who taught us the true meaning of the German word "genau", shared their flagon of cheap red wine, and educated us via complicated mathematical formulas why Germany would once again be world champion (hhhmmm - that last one didn't really work out boys, sorry!)

4 Slovakians

Only one of whom could speak English. Despite that we had an entertaining evening together and we are now all the wiser about the wonders of floorball (!!) and homemade slivovic

A big black beetle (see below)

He literally walked into the area of our tent one evening whilst we were BBQing, and just kept walking around in circles ! Couldn't really figure out what he was looking for at first but it soon became clear that we had an alcoholic bug on our hands! After he made a mad dash for a few drops of wine spilt on the ground, we gave him his own supply in a plastic milk bottle top - see photo below. He literally lapped it up and after a few minutes staggered away never to be seen again!

Oh and no, there weren't really kangaroos the next 10kms ;-) The son of the campsite owner had a friend who knew someone who had once been in Brisbane and who bought back a couple of Australian roadsigns as souvenirs! They now hang in Camp Ujca in northern Croatia, go figure !?
