Vigeland Park

Just back from a long weekend in the snowy winter wonderland of Oslo :-) A highlight was a (cold!) visit to the Vigeland Park, a sculpture park just outside the city centre.

The park itself is the largest park in the city and covers about 320 hectares. The sculpture "park" within the park covers 80 acres and features 212 beautiful bronze and granite sculptures created in the 1920s and 30s by Gustav Vigeland. The centrepiece of the park is the famous "Monolith", with its 121 human figures all embracing each other and reaching for the sky.

The granite sculptures, all various human figures of all ages and sizes, are beautifully soft and rounded looking and I felt really over dressed in my five layers ;-) It was about -10C when we were there so the five layers were definitely necessary!
